Legislative Update / by Joe Furia

Greg Ensell, Vice President of Government Relations

Today marks the 46th day of legislative session. In that short time, AzHHA has made progress on many of its priorities and addressed many proposals pushed forward by other interests.

AzHHA and its partners have strongly supported HB 2322 that would require commercial health insurers to credential physicians and load them into their billing systems within a reasonable time. Additionally, this bill requires pay claims from and after the date a physician’s credentials are approved. This proposal has faced stiff opposition from the insurers and is still a work in progress. It has required a substantial advocacy effort, including direct lobbying and grasstops/ grassroots mobilization. Thank you to hospital leaders who have directly contacted their respective legislators and the 218 healthcare advocates who have responded to the AzHHA action alert.

In addition, AzHHA has helped protect the hospitals assessment from the addition of AHCCCS services which do not benefit the hospitals that pay it. Specifically, AzHHA and its partners have secured amendments that prohibit the use of assessment funds to pay for any chiropractic and/or naturopathic services prospectively covered by AHCCCS.
