Arizona Transition to Practice Program starts fourth cohort

The February 2025 cohort started on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025.

The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA) is pleased to announce that the fourth cohort of the Arizona Transition to Practice Program for New Graduate Registered Nurses has commenced.

The Arizona Transition to Practice Program supports and develops new nurses, provides evidence-based professional development, accelerates the novice nurse to a competent nurse more rapidly, and addresses resilience and emergency preparedness.

The fourth cohort of the program includes:

  • 21 new graduate nurses
  • 41 preceptors
  • 20 mentors
  • Nine participating facilities

“We’re excited to launch our fourth cohort which expands our state’s pool of new graduate nurses with a focus on critical access and rural areas of Arizona where they need this support the most,” shares Karen Ofafa, EdD, MPH, BSN, RN, director, Transition to Practice Program at AzHHA. “The Arizona Transition to Practice Program is made possible by funding and support provided by the Arizona Healthcare Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and the Governor’s Office. We are grateful for their backing so we can tackle this important work.”

AzHHA has partnered with a national vendor, OpusVi (Latin for workforce), who has developed a transition to practice program that enables healthcare systems and organizations to upskill and retain top talent. The Arizona Transition to Practice Program is a 12-month program, and it is the first program that promotes the overall retention of registered nurses statewide.
