Legislative policy and advocacy work on Arizona hospitals’ behalf is the heart of what we do. I am pleased to share our collective accomplishments through AzHHA’s 2022 Legislative Report.

This past legislative session was unique, to say the least, and our strategy adapted to defeat proposed legislation threatening the way hospitals provide safe and effective care while championing our number one priority: strengthening the healthcare workforce.

Despite a turbulent year, AzHHA was successful in passing a significant investment in member hospitals’ number one area of need: healthcare workforce (HB2691). The legislation, which secured nearly $150 million over the next three years, takes a comprehensive approach in expanding the nursing pipeline by:

  • allocating funding to educational institutions to increase enrollment in nursing programs,
  • helping healthcare institutions to grow their clinical training opportunities and
  • establishing a statewide transition to practice program to support new nurses as they enter the hospital setting.

You will see more detail in the 2022 Legislative Report including information on the tenor of session, state budget, COVID-19 legislation and of course, our work on your behalf in passing the healthcare workforce bill (HB2691). Please note, we have a new section on page 14, “Legislation that Affects Hospital Operations” which may require your hospital to revise certain policies and procedures.Â
