Why it matters: With this program, we aspire to create an environment where our nurses can transition seamlessly from academia to practice, gaining the confidence and competence they need to provide the best possible quality care to our communities.

The big picture:

  • Any Arizona healthcare facility licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services that hires new graduate registered nurses may apply.
  • Priority will be given to critical access hospitals or hospitals located in counties with a population of less than 500,000 people.
  • Hospitals with existing 12-month Transition to Practice programs are not eligible.

Make time for thoughtful life conversations

This holiday season, give thanks for every moment and enjoy the time with your loved ones.

  • This can also be the perfect time to discuss your advance care planning and end-of-life care preferences with those closest to you.

Why it matters: Thoughtful life conversations can kickstart your efforts to ensure that you receive the type of medical care you want.

  • Starting this conversation can be difficult, but it’s important to let others know how to honor your wishes if you can’t speak for yourself, whether due to an accident, medical event or towards the end of life.

Complete the Arizona Bioscience Roadmap survey

Arizona's Bioscience Roadmap image

The Flinn Foundation and SRI International are working with Arizona leaders to design the third iteration of Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap, which has guided development of our bioscience sector since 2002.

  • SRI has launched a survey to understand Arizona’s bioscience ecosystem competitiveness, talent pipeline, organizational needs and research and commercialization challenges.
  • The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, Dec. 20, 2024.

Why it matters: The survey is essential to build the new roadmap.

  • The survey is lengthy; it will take approximately 20 minutes to complete, but your voice will help guide the development of the new plan.
  • Anyone whose work touches the biosciences can complete this survey.

Latest national trends: COVID-19 down; RSV, flu up

Illustration of a giant virus cell crushing a crumbling red cross.

According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the amount of acute respiratory illness causing people to seek healthcare has increased for the first time this season to “moderate.”

  • By the numbers: Nationally, flu test positivity remains low at 3.5% but continues to increase slowly; COVID-19 test positivity has decreased to 4%; RSV test positivity has increased to 8%.

Why it matters: COVID-19 and flu activity are predicted to increase from low levels.
