AHCCCS issues public notice of correction concerning behavioral health documentation requirements
On Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, the Arizona Health Care Containment System (AHCCCS) published a public notice to clarify the initial language in the March 2024 Claims Clues release.
- AHCCCS requires providers to submit documentation for HCPCS and CPT codes that are on pre-payment review to verify claim documentation will adequately support services billed.
The minimum types of documentation that are required to be submitted for each billed claim are listed below.
-
Comprehensive assessment: The member’s most recent comprehensive behavioral health assessment.
-
Treatment care plan: The treatment plan for the services billed.
-
Consent to treat form: A signed copy of the member’s consent to treatment for the services billed.
-
Records/Documentation: Medical record documentation for each claim line billed on the service date(s).
When submitting documentation via TIBCO, it is recommended to utilize document dividers to help organize each document type and to upload only one black/white PDF file that contains all supportive documentation for each claim.

Safeguarding your future healthcare decisions
In the journey of life, preparing for the future is just as important as living in the present.
- One critical aspect of this planning is making healthcare decisions in advance.
Why it matters: Registering your healthcare directives ensures your voice is heard, your choices are respected and provides clear guidance to your family and healthcare providers about your treatment preferences.
The big picture: The Arizona Healthcare Directives Registry (AzHDR) offers Arizonans a unique and vital service to ensure their healthcare wishes are known and respected, even when they cannot voice them themselves.
- The registry ensures that your loved ones and healthcare providers have access to these directives in case you are unable to communicate your healthcare wishes due to illness or incapacity.
What’s next: Registering with the AzHDR is simple and free. Visit the AzHDR site and follow the steps on the page.
Take charge today and let your healthcare decisions be part of your legacy.
