This National Mental Health Awareness Week we are taking the opportunity to advance the understanding of those with behavioral health needs. While we’ve made significant strides in shifting the stigma related to mental illness, we still need to find better and more sustainable ways of preventing, treating and managing behavioral healthcare needs. One example would be the outdated and burdensome Institutions for Mental Diseases (IMD) exclusion in Medicaid. Because of Medicaid’s IMD exclusion, these medically necessary inpatient stays are unavailable to low-income Arizonans. Read more here.
