The comment period closed this week for the Department of Homeland Security’s proposed rule on the Inadmissibility on Public Charge Grounds. If finalized, the rule will vastly expand the types of public benefits (including use of Medicaid services) that would be used in making “public charge determinations” for legal immigrants seeking a change in their status. The Agency received over 200,000 comments on the rule. AzHHA joined many other healthcare organizations in expressing concern over the chilling effect that the policy change would have on Medicaid enrollment, and subsequent negative impact on health outcomes.
