Efforts under way to protect 340B program

In response to recent actions taken by a number of drug companies to limit the distribution of certain 340B drugs to hospitals and health systems, members of Congress are circulating and asking House of Representatives members to sign a Dear Colleague letter addressed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) urging the agency to use its authority to address these troubling actions and require the companies to comply with the law. Similarly, AzHHA is contacting Arizona’s delegation urging support for the letter. Any hospital affected by the drug companies’ actions is encouraged the reach out to its respective House members and ask them to sign this important letter.

The deadline for signatures is 12 p.m. Friday, September 11. Please urge your House members to reach out to Kirsten Wing with Representative McKinley’s office at [email protected] or Sherie Lou Santos with Representative DeGette’s office at [email protected] to sign on to the letter.

The American Hospital Association and other national groups have already sent several letters to HHS calling on the agency to protect 340B hospitals from these actions. In addition, the AHA has sent letters to each of the offending drug companies urging them to stop this conduct and work to ensure that 340B drugs are available and accessible to vulnerable communities and populations.
