New report highlights community benefit

Hospital plus being pulled down by people. People are in the shadow of the plus.

What’s new: On Tuesday, Oct. 10, the American Hospital Association (AHA) released a new report showing tax-exempt hospitals provided nearly $130 billion in total benefits to their communities in 2020 alone.

Why it matters: This report illustrates the many ways hospitals support their communities including:

  • Providing financial assistance to those in need.
  • Offering programs and services designed to meet current and future health needs.

Deadline approaching - Healthcare Leadership Academy applications

What’s new: The deadline for applications for the 2024 Healthcare Leadership Academy (HLA) is fast approaching! Applications are due Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Why it matters:

  • The AzHHA Foundation is partnering with Creighton University to provide healthcare leadership development and management education to employees of AzHHA member hospitals.
  • This is a unique opportunity to equip mid-level managers with the management and leadership skills necessary to build organizational sustainability and prepare your hospital for the future.

Go deeper:

  • Length: Six months beginning in March 2024 and concluding in November 2024.
  • Curriculum: 16 modules covering health policy and law, HR and financial management, and more.
  • Format: Hybrid in-person and synchronous virtual learning.
  • Credentials: Dual certificates, graduate credits and 72 CEUs.
  • Cost: $8,500 - this is a discounted rate as Creighton University has generously offered, through our partnership, to discount what would normally be a $15,000 tuition fee.

AzCHER member survey shows positive results

What’s new: AzCHER recently completed its first member survey to provide important baseline information for 850 member organizations.

Why it matters: The survey was completed with all core members represented. Overall, AzCHER received eight and nine of out 10 as average ratings in 11 of the 12 categories, including an average of a nine rating in the overall value of the membership.

👍Other highlights include:

  • Training and educations (virtual and in-person): Nine out of 10 rating
  • Exercises (discussion-based or operational-based): Nine out of 10 rating
  • Communication (newsletter, website, webinars, toolkits): Nine out of 10 rating
  • Member services (digital platforms, additional support): Eight out of 10 rating

What’s next: Based on the feedback, there is room for improvement on the mobile application. AzCHER is committed to making the app an area of focus moving forward.
