Arizona Transition to Practice Program: Apply now for the September 2025 cohort!

Applications are now open for the sixth cohort of the Arizona Transition to Practice Program for New Graduate Registered Nurses beginning in September 2025.

  • Any Arizona healthcare facility licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services that hires new graduate registered nurses may apply.

  • Priority is given to critical access hospitals or hospitals located in counties with a population of less than 500,000 people.

  • Hospitals with existing 12-month Transition to Practice programs are not eligible.

Why it matters: The Arizona Transition to Practice Program for New Graduate Registered Nurses:

  • Supports and develops new nurses.

  • Provides evidence-based professional development.

  • Accelerates the novice nurse to a competent nurse more rapidly.

  • Addresses resilience and emergency preparedness.

👉Applications are due Monday, Aug. 11, 2025.

Becker’s Hospital Review 100 great community hospitals

Becker’s Hospital Review recently released a list of “100 great community hospitals” in 2025.

  • The list is based on nominations and editorial research.

Congratulations to AzHHA member hospitals, Kingman Regional Medical Center and Valleywise Health Medical Center, for being named to this list.

  • Kingman Regional Medical Center is recognized as the largest healthcare provider in northwest Arizona, and the 235-bed medical center is also the state’s first rural teaching hospital.

    • Over the past decade, the hospital has expanded its workforce by 80%, launched community partnerships and introduced pioneering programs.

  • Valleywise Health Medical Center is recognized as a 240-bed public teaching hospital that, in June 2024, successfully opened a new $935 million, 10-story acute care facility.

    • The new hospital houses the state-of-the-art Diane & Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center, now Arizona’s only verified adult and pediatric burn center.

Apply for AHA’s 2026 Quest for Quality Prize

The American Hospital Association (AHA) is accepting applications through Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, for the Quest for Quality Prize.

  • This an annual award that honors hospitals and health systems committed to leadership and innovation in improving quality and advancing health.

Applicants should provide access to exceptional quality, safe and patient- and family-centered care; partner with community organizations and agencies to improve the health status of their communities; and develop new and innovative models of care.

What’s next: The AHA is accepting applications now through Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025.

AzHHA releases DataGen reports

In relationship with DataGen, AzHHA distributes reports to hospitals based on information submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. DataGen generates hospital-specific reports which are sent to AzHHA hospital members as part of their membership.

Why it matters: This data helps hospitals understand the financial impact of proposed changes and annual updates.

  • The reports can also assist in preparing budgets or benchmarking results with other similar organizations.

The below reports were recently sent to members:

  • FFY 2026 Inpatient PPS Analysis - CMS Update (sent Friday, July 18, 2025)

  • FFY 2027 Wage Index and Occupational Mix Data Analysis (sent Monday, July 21, 2025)

  • CY 2026 Medicare Home Health PPS Proposed Rule Analysis (sent Monday, July 21, 2025)

Spotlight: Bradie Blair’s nursing journey with the Arizona Transition to Practice Program

Bradie Blair, a nurse at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, graduated from the Arizona Transition to Practice Program for New Graduate Registered Nurses in June 2025.

  • Prior to moving from Wyoming to Stafford, Ariz., Bradie had never heard of a transition to practice program.

The big picture: Designed to support newly registered licensed nurses, the program offers structured mentorship, peer support and live learning opportunities to help ease the transition into clinical practice.
