Roland Knox received the 2025 Salsbury Award to honor his long-standing commitment to improving healthcare in Arizona and access to high-quality care in rural communities. Under his leadership, Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center doubled in size, added new service lines that created access to specialty care and brought care closer to home for his community.

“For more than two decades, Roland has exemplified servant leadership, an unwavering commitment to people and a relentless drive to ensure rural communities have access to high-quality care,” said Ann-Marie Alameddin, president and CEO of AzHHA. “His leadership has strengthened communities like Safford and Willcox, and his influence has reached every corner of Arizona.”

The 2025 Salsbury Award was presented to Knox on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, at the 2025 Arizona Hospital Leadership Conference in Tucson, Ariz.

Bio: Roland Knox

Roland Knox has been a pillar of Arizona’s healthcare community for more than 25 years, leading with humility and purpose at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center in Safford, Ariz., and Northern Cochise Community Hospital in Willcox, Ariz. He joined Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center in 2000, and left for a few years to work at Northern Cochise Community Hospital before returning as CEO in 2019. Knox retired in 2025.

He served for 10 years on the AzHHA Board of Directors, including three years as Treasurer. Knox’s work with AzHHA also included nine years as the chair of the the Affiliated Partners Program board, leading the Small Rural Hospital Constituency group for five years and contributing to the Policy and Advocacy Committee for two years.
